Cute Ways To Make Your Cat Happy

September 1, 2023

September is Happy Cat Month! Of course, as far as we are concerned, every month should be Happy Cat Month. Kitties are purrfect pets: they’re cute, lovable, and lots of fun. Read on as a local vet lists some ways you can please your feline overlord. Wickenburg and the surrounding communities

Catnip Bubbles

Fluffy is always adorable when she’s feeling the effects of her favorite plant. You can now give your furball some catnip bubbles, which is twice the fun for her.  (This also makes for some really cute photos.)

Box Castle

Two things kitties love? Boxes and being pampered. Put these two together by making your cat her own little box palace. This is a great kids’ project!

Playtime

Fluffy is never cuter than when she’s feeling frisky and playful. Take time to hold a laser pointer or string toy for your furry pal. This will benefit your pet physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Beds

As far as Fluffy is concerned, there’s just no such thing as too many beds. Store-bought ones are fine, but you can also go the DIY route here. Upcycle a crate, drawer, or hard-shell suitcase by dressing it up with paint or varnish and then adding a soft pillow. Voila! Happy cat.

Furniture

Our feline buddies aren’t picky about finding napping spots or things to look adorable on, but they do love having things made just for them. Cat towers are probably Fluffy’s number one choice, but they aren’t the only option. You can also make things for your little buddy. For instance, you can upcycle an old stepladder into a cat tower by adding a smooth plank or board to the steps,  and then covering the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope.

Window Seat

Kitties are always safer indoors, but they do enjoy having a window with a good view so they can combine their favorite activities: sunbathing, napping, and spying on birds and squirrels. Set up a comfy spot for your furry little spy by a sunny window. Just make sure that your screens close securely.

Playtime

We may joke about how cold and aloof cats are, but in truth, these little furballs are actually very affectionate and form extremely strong bonds with their humans. Pay lots of attention to your feline friend!

Our Advice on Cute Ways To Make Your Cat Happy in 2024

How can you turn playtime into a good workout for your cat?

To turn playtime into an effective workout for your cat, engage in activities that stimulate their natural hunting instincts. Use toys like laser pointers or string toys to encourage your cat to run, jump, and pounce. Introduce interactive toys that require your cat to move around to catch or find them, such as balls or motorized toys that mimic prey movements. Vary the toys and play sessions to keep your cat interested and physically challenged. Regular, interactive play sessions will not only keep your cat fit but also strengthen the bond between you.

What’s the best way to show your cat you love her?

The best way to show your cat love is through attentive care and understanding her preferences. Regular playtime, providing comfortable beds, and establishing a safe window seat for bird-watching cater to her physical and mental well-being. Creating engaging environments with catnip bubbles, box castles, or custom furniture like cat towers demonstrates thoughtfulness toward her interests. Moreover, consistent gentle grooming, petting, and speaking softly to her will reinforce your bond. Recognizing and respecting her unique personality and needs conveys love and appreciation effectively.

Besides laser pointers and string, what other engaging cat toys are there?

In addition to laser pointers and string toys, there are various engaging toys for cats. Interactive toys, such as motorized or rolling balls, encourage physical activity and mental stimulation. Puzzle feeders or treat-dispensing toys provide mental challenges and reward your cat’s problem-solving skills. Feather wands or teaser toys mimic prey, stimulating your cat’s hunting instincts. Catnip-filled toys or plush mice offer sensory enrichment and play opportunities. Rotating and diversifying toy options keep your cat engaged and entertained, promoting overall well-being and preventing boredom.

Are any materials you might use for DIY projects potentially harmful to cats?

Yes, some materials used in DIY projects can be harmful to cats. For example, certain paints, varnishes, or adhesives may contain toxic chemicals that can be harmful if ingested or inhaled by cats. Similarly, fabrics treated with chemicals or dyes could pose a risk if chewed or ingested. It’s essential to research and choose pet-safe materials when undertaking DIY projects for your cat, ensuring their health and safety are prioritized. Additionally, always supervise your cat around DIY creations and remove any potential hazards to prevent accidents or injuries.

Besides beds and furniture, what else makes a home stimulating for a cat?

In addition to beds and furniture, there are several other ways to make a home stimulating for a cat. Providing vertical spaces, such as cat trees or shelves, allows cats to climb and explore their environment. Interactive toys, puzzle feeders, or hiding treats around the house engage their natural hunting instincts and provide mental stimulation. Access to windows with perches or shelves lets cats observe outdoor activities, satisfying their curiosity. Rotating toys and rearranging furniture periodically prevent boredom and keep them mentally active. Ultimately, offering a variety of enrichment opportunities tailored to your cat’s preferences enhances their overall well-being and happiness.
