Here at Hassayampa Veterinary Services, we have fun commemorating the various pet holidays and observances on the calendar. This month, on the 22nd, we celebrate Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day, and we can’t wait to indulge in some playful curiosity with our inquisitive kitties. What do you think your cat would be most curious about? Below, a local Wickenburg, AZ vet shares a few of their best guesses.
Our feline friends take their meal schedules very seriously. Fluffy may meow her displeasure if you’re late with her first, second, or third breakfast. (Note: cats are notorious for ‘meowing’ enough that we end up overfeeding them. Your Wickenburg, AZ vet can provide nutritional recommendations if this is a problem in your house.)
We’ll probably never understand everything there is to know about cats, but we have made some progress. Recent research suggests that cats create visual maps of their living quarters. They use these maps to keep track of their humans’ movements. Think of it sort of like a GPS map, where you are the icon that’s moving about the screen. If Fluffy can’t easily locate you, she may get confused or even frustrated.
We all know how important keeping kitty safely indoors is. But if you try to tell your feline pal about the dangers she may face outdoors, such as cars, inclement weather, or even other cats, she may just give you an inquisitive look or the infamous feline death stare.
Somehow, Fluffy manages to be even funnier when she’s trying to be serious. For instance, you may find yourself giggling at your pet when she does that hilarious pre-pounce butt wiggle. Good luck trying to explain why you find her so humorous, though.
Playing with your pet with a laser pointer is fun and beneficial for her. And while your kitty may never be successful in capturing her digital prey, she’ll have a great time trying. Just be careful never to shine the light in her eyes.
Fluffy’s nose may not be quite as sensitive as Fido’s, but its power is still pretty impressive. If you happen to interact with another cat, your curious kitty might pick up her scent on you. Don’t be surprised if she gives you a disapproving look!
We don’t yet know if cats have existential crises or seriously ponder the meaning of life, but we do know that they spend a lot of time meditating. One thing they might be especially confused about is why they must visit the animal clinic.
As far as your feline pal is concerned, the 6 to 8 hours of sleep most people get each night are not nearly enough. While Fluffy can sleep as much as 20 hours a day, she’ll typically settle for 14 to 16 hours.
It’s unlikely that Fluffy’s full list of golden rules will ever be revealed to us, but we’re pretty sure the concept of breakfast being the most important meal of the day is one of them. You may find yourself awakened by your furry pal if you sleep in past the time she’s used to being served her morning meal.
Despite having a sometimes rocky relationship, Fido and Fluffy usually manage to get along … or at least tolerate one another. That said, they certainly don’t speak the same language. There’s a good chance your kitty is curious as to why Fido does what he’s told, doesn’t use a litter box, and doesn’t groom himself. (Fido may also wonder about his feline roommate, but that’s another story.)
Cats tend to be homebodies, even if they are allowed outside occasionally (which we strongly recommend against). Fluffy usually does not enjoy being placed into a carrier and taken for a ride in a dreaded car, but regular visits to your local Wickenburg, AZ animal hospital are crucial to her ongoing health and wellbeing.
At some point, most of us who are owned by cats have discovered a small pile of toys underneath our chairs, beds, or sofas. Your frisky friend may be curious about where all her catnip mice and balls have disappeared to.
Despite the fact that Fluffy isn’t technically cold-blooded, or that she doesn’t run on solar power, she seems to have missed the memo. Felines love to recharge their ‘catteries’ in sunny spots around the house. Your pet might wonder why she doesn’t have access to her favorite sunbeam at all times.
Because these little furballs spend up to 20 hours a day napping, they’re always looking for a new place to curl up and catch some z’s. At some point, you’ll inevitably have to move your pet off of something, whether it’s a book, a computer, or the jacket you planned on wearing.
The average housecat spends the majority of her time just relaxing and being adorable. Talk about a great life! Fluffy also appreciates the other things you offer her, like food, toys, lap space, catnip, beds, boxes, and chin scratches. In fact, she may even try to pay you back by ‘helping’ with certain tasks, such as packing suitcases, wrapping gifts, or changing the sheets.
Cats often like to lord over, er…watch their humans. Fluffy may keep a close eye on you while you read, cook, do laundry, or fix things. She may even follow you to the bathroom.
The well-known phrase regarding curiosity potentially leading to a cat’s demise likely has some truth to it. This concept may also be connected to the belief that cats have multiple lives. It’s common to catch cats investigating boxes or luggage, as they cannot resist their natural inclination to explore. Their inherent curiosity can be traced back to their role as both predator and prey in the wild, causing them to constantly seek knowledge about their surroundings.
(Note: Especially curious cats can sometimes get themselves into trouble, like ending up locked inside places such as sheds or garages. Keep an eye out for your kitty, just in case.)
