Sam Johnson, DVM

Associate Veterinarian (Joining the team January 2024)

Dr. Sam Johnson will be joining the Hassayampa Veterinary Services team, bringing equine veterinary experience to Wickenburg and the surrounding areas. Sam is currently the owner of Glenwood Veterinary Clinic in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, a practice founded in 1936 and the only locally owned, mixed animal practice on the Western Slope of Colorado. This opportunity has presented as many of Glenwood Veterinary Clinic’s equine clients make their way down to Wickenburg in the winter months and partnering with Hassayampa is a great opportunity to be able to continue to service those clients here in the Southwest.

Sam is originally from Denver, Colorado and completed his undergraduate coursework at Boston College followed by veterinary school at Colorado State University. After CSU, Sam completed an equine internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala in Florida. While in Florida, Sam was offered a position as an associate veterinarian in Glenwood Springs. After 6 months as an associate, the partners informed Sam of their intent to sell the practice. Sam took over as owner and operator in 2018 and has since grown the hospital to a 5 doctor mixed animal hospital, with core values focused on providing service to all animals with a special focus on supporting the local community and environment.

In the veterinary realm, Sam loves all animals but has found a special interest and passion in equine sports medicine and podiatry. He enjoys collaborating as a team with farriers, trainers and horse owners to provide optimal and practical solutions to help our equine companions. Trying to stay active and informed in this industry, Sam spends time in Lexington, KY each summer working with the top equine veterinarians and farriers in the world as well as teaching at Colorado State University and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.
