Triage Guidelines

While not every pet follows the rules, here are some general guidelines on how rapidly you should seek veterinary care. If you are ever uncertain, please call us at (928) 684-3070 so we can best direct your animal toward getting the care they need, when they need it.

  • Itching or scratching
  • Hair loss
  • Red eyes/skin/ears
  • Chronic weight loss
  • Chronic illness
  • Single seizure with recovery
  • Torn nail
  • Dental concerns
  • Chronic/intermittent lameness
  • Shaking head

Yellow Seek urgent care within 24 hours:

  • Vomiting (less than twice)
  • Acute diarrhea without vomiting
  • Frequent urination
  • Straining to defecate
  • Ingestion of a foreign body (with no signs of illness)
  • Appetite loss for over 24 hours
  • Coughing without distress
  • Toxin ingestion (substance dependent)
  • Laceration
  • Allergic reaction (mild)

Red Seek immediate urgent care:

  • Respiratory distress
  • Collapse
  • Unable to walk or get up
  • Unable to urinate
  • Urinating blood
  • Active or cluster seizures
  • Colic
  • Severe trauma (hit by car, animal attack)
  • Hemorrhage/profuse bleeding
